In this conversation, researcher Marta Lucía Giraldo and researcher Daniel Jerónimo Tobón, academic editors of the book Dar forma al tiempo: arte y archivo en Iberoamérica, will take us through the contemporary artistic practice that takes the archive as its object of study. It will also be an occasion to learn about some of the ideas of the guests who participated in this publication, through an interdisciplinary dialogue between archival science, aesthetics, criticism and art history.
About Marta Lucía Giraldo
Doctor in Comparative, Political and Social History from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. Master’s in Colombian Literature, historian and full professor at the Universidad de Antioquia. Her research interests include the relationship between archives, human rights, cultural memory and art. She has published the following books: Archivos vivos. Documentar los derechos humanos y la memoria colectiva en Colombia (2022); Tramitar el pasado. Archivos de derechos humanos y museología viva (2018); Estudios sobre memoria colectiva del conflicto. Colombia, 2000-2010.
About Daniel Jerónimo Tobón
Doctor in Human and Social Sciences from Universidad Nacional and Master’s in Philosophy. Professor at the Institute of Philosophy at Universidad de Antioquia. He has dedicated his work to aesthetics and the philosophy of art. In particular, he has been interested in emotions, memory, and archives in cinema and the visual arts. Among his recent publications are: “Archives are machines. A Review of Artistic Discourses on Art and Archives in Iberoamerica, 2011-2022” (2024); “Realismo, ética y emociones en el cine de Víctor Gaviria” (2024); “La crisis de la comunidad, de la narración y de la experiencia en El vuelco del cangrejo y La sirga” (2022); “Dosier operación Cirirí. Archivos contra la impunidad” (2021); “El archivo como dispositivo crítico” (2022); Experiencias del mal. Afectos morales en el cine colombiano contemporáneo (2020); and “Empathy and Sympathy: Two Contemporary Models of Character Engagement” (2019). He has also edited books such as Las indisciplinas de la historia del arte (2022); Arte sin estética (2016); Arte, hermenéutica y cultura: homenaje a Javier Domínguez Hernández (2015); and El arte y la fragilidad de la memoria (2014).
