Fund Débora Arango. Activating a Legacy, Sustaining a Voice

The Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín presents the Fondo Débora Arango, an initiative that seeks to activate, preserve, and project the master artist’s work toward new audiences, languages, and contemporary debates, strengthening its critical relevance through collective work and institutional partnerships.

  • The Fund drives research, conservation, mediation, and circulation processes for the work of Débora Arango.
  • It seeks to broaden contemporary readings of her work and bring it closer to diverse audiences, both inside and outside the museum.
  • The initiative is open to contributions of any amount and to the participation of allied institutions.

The Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín (MAMM) announces the launch of the Fondo Débora Arango, an initiative born from the conviction that an artist’s legacy should not remain static. Through this Fund, the Museum proposes to activate the work of one of the most important figures in Colombian art, promoting its study, preservation, and circulation in dialogue with present-day debates.

The Fondo Débora Arango conceives her work as a living field of conversation, friction, and collective learning. The initiative seeks to expand its critical readings, integrate it into new educational, cultural, and social contexts, and foster encounters among researchers, artists, students, and diverse audiences, reaffirming the Museum’s public vocation and its commitment to modern and contemporary art.

For over 40 years, MAMM has carried out continuous research, conservation, and circulation work resulting in more than 70 solo exhibitions and over 25 group exhibitions dedicated to Arango’s work.

Thanks to this work, it has circulated widely in Colombia and abroad, reaching cities such as Bogotá, Cali, Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, Manizales, Pereira, and Montería, as well as countries such as Spain, Mexico, Belgium, Venezuela, the United States, and Chile. These experiences have made it possible to broaden the readings of her work and place it in dialogue with different cultural, historical, and social contexts.

“Débora Arango — uncomfortable, lucid, radical — continues to challenge our present. The Fund seeks to activate her work, expand its readings, and bring it to new territories, audiences, and languages, safeguarding its preservation without giving up its contemporary power,” says Rafael Tamayo, director of the Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín.

With the Fondo Débora Arango, MAMM projects this journey into the future and invites individuals, organizations, and allied institutions to join a collective effort so that the master artist’s voice continues to resonate in contemporary debates.
