  • The Fund supports research, conservation, educational engagement, and the circulation of Débora Arango’s work.
  • It seeks to expand contemporary interpretations of her practice and bring it closer to diverse audiences, both within and beyond the museum.
  • The initiative welcomes contributions of any amount, as well as partnerships with allied institutions.

The Medellín Museum of Modern Art (MAMM) announces the launch of the Débora Arango Fund, an initiative grounded in the belief that an artist’s legacy should not remain static. Through this Fund, the Museum seeks to activate the work of one of the most influential figures in Colombian art, promoting its study, preservation, and circulation in dialogue with the issues and debates of our time.

The Débora Arango Fund understands her work as a living field of conversation, critical inquiry, and collective learning. The initiative aims to broaden contemporary readings of her practice, integrate it into new educational, cultural, and social contexts, and foster exchanges among researchers, artists, students, and diverse audiences, reaffirming the Museum’s public mission and its commitment to modern and contemporary art.

For more than 40 years, MAMM has carried out ongoing research, conservation, and circulation efforts, resulting in more than 70 solo exhibitions and over 25 group exhibitions dedicated to Arango’s work.

Thanks to this sustained commitment, her work has been widely presented throughout Colombia and internationally, reaching cities such as Bogotá, Cali, Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, Manizales, Pereira, and Montería, as well as countries including Spain, Mexico, Belgium, Venezuela, the United States, and Chile. These experiences have expanded interpretations of her work and placed it in dialogue with a wide range of cultural, historical, and social contexts.

“Débora Arango—uncompromising, lucid, and radical—continues to challenge and illuminate our present. The Fund seeks to activate her work, expand its interpretations, and bring it to new territories, audiences, and languages, safeguarding its preservation while embracing its contemporary power,” says Rafael Tamayo, Director of the Medellín Museum of Modern Art.

Through the Débora Arango Fund, MAMM projects this trajectory into the future and invites individuals, organizations, and partner institutions to join a collective effort to ensure that the artist’s voice continues to resonate within contemporary debates.
