Memories of Bajo Cauca: El Bagre, Listening Toward the Future

Memories of the Lower Cauca: El Bagre, Listening to the Future is a project of the Museum of Modern Art of Medellín in partnership with Mineros S.A., Cocrea, and Puentes Consultorías. This initiative was developed in the municipality of El Bagre, Antioquia, with the purpose of building a shared vision of the territory based on memory, community dialogue, and artistic creation.

The project aimed to conduct a participatory assessment that would allow for the investigation, collection, and systematization of knowledge about local history, living culture, and the ecological challenges of the municipality. To this end, active listening methodologies and artistic and communicative tools were implemented to gather the voices, visions, and experiences of the community regarding its present and future.

During the process, workshops were held with various local stakeholders, including teachers, students, cultural groups, artisans, merchants, and miners. These spaces facilitated the exchange of knowledge, the recognition of problems, and the identification of opportunities to strengthen the cultural and environmental life of El Bagre.

As a result, a roadmap for the future was developed: a collective vision that outlines potential cultural facilities and community processes necessary to guarantee the sustainability, relevance, and ownership of cultural initiatives in the municipality.

Memories of the Lower Cauca is a commitment to listening to the territory, acknowledging its history, and projecting, through art and participation, possible futures for El Bagre.
