A new era at the MAMM: body, territory and food sovereignty in its first exhibition cycle of 2026

The MAMM presents its first exhibition series of the year, an ambitious undertaking that places the body and territory at the heart of public discourse. Through diverse artistic practices, the exhibitions explore pressing tensions such as food security, land sovereignty, and water conservation, fostering a critical dialogue about how we inhabit and protect our environment.

  • For the first time in Colombia, the Ad Minoliti Feminist Painting School arrives, a globally significant project that has toured institutions in the United States, France, Argentina, and Brazil.
  • The exhibition Birds and Mountains Inhabit Us brings together the work of Débora Arango with contemporary figures such as Luz Lizarazo and Carolina Caycedo, along with other artists from Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Cuba, the United States, and Trinidad and Tobago.
  • The Museum marks a historic precedent by bringing, for the first time, the work of an artist from Palestine to its galleries, integrating his perspective into a diverse group that includes creators from Spain, Romania, Puerto Rico, and Costa Rica.
  • On Thursday, March 26, the Museum will open its doors from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., with free admission for all.
  • The opening program will be extended to include an Extended Night on Friday, March 27, and special tours on Saturday, March 28, and Sunday, March 29, also with free admission.

This new exhibition cycle proposes a space for reflection that situates the body in relation to the land. Through the exhibitions, the Museum also seeks to delve into the social, cultural, and political dimensions of food, understanding that food sovereignty is also a form of resistance and belonging. These narratives invite visitors to reflect on how our identities are shaped by the land we inhabit and the resources that sustain us, establishing a bridge between global urgencies and local realities.

The diversity of the Colombian landscape takes center stage through the exploration of its multiple sonic dimensions and its vital connection to water. The exhibitions not only present objects but also activate experiences where the sounds of the land and the flow of water resources become languages that narrate the history of our geographies. It is a recognition of the country’s ecosystemic richness and a warning about the fragility of the bonds that maintain the balance between nature and the communities that protect it.

This thematic approach is embodied in a journey that ranges from the historical dialogue between the work of Débora Arango and contemporary artists in We are inhabited by birds and mountains, curated by Marielsa Castro, through the political perspective on memory in Light, Fire, and Ashes, curated by Ana Ruiz Valencia, to the sensory immersion of The Whisper of Clay, curated by Jorge Barco. Under the new general direction of Rafael Tamayo and the chief curatorship of Marielsa Castro, the MAMM reaffirms its commitment to being a living museum, where contemporary art serves as a tool for deciphering the complexities of life, the land, and culture in the 21st century.
