Amorosamente excluyente: A visual and linguistic game in the work of Wallace V. Masuko and Ana María Montenegro

In the framework of the exhibition No objetualismos. Hacia un pensamiento visual independiente, the Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín (MAMM) presents Amorosamente excluyente, a virtual work by artists Wallace V. Masuko and Ana María Montenegro. The work stems from the graphic legacy of Adolfo Bernal, a Medellín artist who, since the 1970s, began intervening in public space with a series of typographic posters laden with meaning and visual experimentation.

Amorosamente excluyente takes Bernal’s production as its starting point, proposing a translation of his posters into four languages: Portuguese, English, French, and Japanese. Masuko and Montenegro reinterpret Bernal’s original work through a microsite that randomly presents these posters, always in a language different from the geographic location where it is accessed. The experience thus becomes a game of chance, translation, and color, highlighting Bernal’s intention to maintain a communication that, as he himself defined it, is “lovingly exclusive.”

We invite you to explore this work on its website: amorosamenteexcluyente.com, and discover firsthand the dynamic interaction of typography, color, and the linguistic barrier that defines this artistic experience.
