Apertura de exposiciones MAMM

Five exhibitions you can visit starting Friday, April 26

On Friday, April 26, we opened five new exhibitions during a free admission day that joined our traditional Extended Night to enjoy guided tours, outdoor short film screenings, and a DJ Set with urban artist Zatélithe.

It was a day to enjoy the city and its gathering spaces around art, offering us the possibility of broadening our vision of the world while connecting with human sensitivity through the eyes of the artists we welcome into our galleries.

It was also an opportunity for our visitors to be surprised by the proposals of artists and collectives from different regions of the country who offer reflections on identity, territory, and the official narratives of history. We also shared with those who visited our galleries the 100th anniversary of the birth of master Hernando Tejada with a commemorative exhibition.

Desafiar. Atravesar el sol desde un gran Pacífico, by Cali-based curator Yolanda Chois, is an exhibition featuring 15 artists and collectives, an invitation to approach a territory that spans Santa María de Timbiquí in Cauca, crosses through Buenaventura, Cali, Puerto Tejada, tracing routes from the Chocoan coast to the Bay of Panama based on the experiences and endeavors of primarily Afro and Black artists. Likewise, Kalabongó, an exhibition by photographer Jorge Panchoaga and the collective Konda Ku Monikongo, transports us to the dreamlike world of Palenque de Benkos, known as San Basilio de Palenque, in a work that also preserves the memory of the history of the first free town in the Americas.

Ofrenda, by Mexican artist Tania Candiani, is the first large-scale exhibition by this artist in Colombia and brings together a series of works centered on sound, artisanal processes, and rivers, which speak, among other latitudes, of Medellín. As well as Fósil acústico. Escuchar (con) el río, by Bogota-based artist Santiago Reyes Villaveces and Colombian-Canadian researcher Daniel Villegas Vélez, which seeks to foster environmental and cultural awareness through an artistic and educational experience related to the river that runs through the Valle de Aburrá. This first block of exhibitions for 2024 closes with an exhibition celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of artist Hernando Tejada. Viaje de vuelta transports us to the curiosity of a man who, through the practice of his patient contemplation and profound sensitivity, captured part of the diversity and richness of the country.

These exhibition projects are made possible thanks to intersectoral work and the trust and support of public and private institutions such as Sura, the Ministry of Cultures, Arts and Knowledge, Comfama, Fundación MUV, the Área Metropolitana, the Canada Council for the Arts, Bela, and the Instituto Humboldt.
