Hernando Tejada arrives in Cali with the exhibition Viaje de vuelta within the framework of COP16

The Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín (MAMM) is proud to announce the arrival of the exhibition Viaje de vuelta by maestro Hernando Tejada at the Biblioteca Departamental Jorge Garcés Borrero in Cali. The show, which opens on Saturday, October 19, takes place within the framework of COP16, a global event dedicated to biodiversity, thus highlighting the relevance of Tejada’s work in the context of discussions on conservation and sustainability.

The exhibition, curated by Dora Escobar and Andrés Roldán from the MAMM team, offers a journey through the travels of maestro Tejada (Pereira, 1924 – Cali, 1998) across Colombian territory, especially his experiences in the tropical and coastal regions of the Pacific and Caribbean. The works include drawings, paintings, and sculptures that evoke natural landscapes and the everyday experiences of Afro-descendant communities, captured over more than fifty years of artistic creation. Tejada found in Colombia’s natural diversity the inspiration to portray unique ecosystems such as mangroves, which stand out for their symbolism in environmental conservation.

Within the framework of COP16, Viaje de vuelta not only commemorates the 100th anniversary of Tejada’s birth, but also invites reflection on biodiversity and a harmonious relationship with nature, a goal aligned with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework for 2050.

This exhibition is the result of the alliance between the MAMM and the Biblioteca Departamental Jorge Garcés Borrero, joining efforts to preserve and disseminate the artistic and environmental legacy of Hernando Tejada, who found in Cali his definitive home.
