Olga de Amaral’s exhibition arrives at MALBA with a work from the MAMM Collection

On February 27, a new exhibition opened at the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires, bringing together decades of work by artist Olga de Amaral, with more than 50 pieces from different collections around the world, including a piece that is part of the MAMM Collection: Farallón al ocaso (1972).

Farallón al ocaso (Cliff at Sunset) is a tapestry made from plant fibers and pigments that demonstrates the artist’s interest in expanding the boundaries of textile art into the realm of abstraction and material experimentation. Measuring 170 x 220 cm, the work has been part of our collection since 1980, when it was donated by the artist herself. This piece is part of a group of works that consolidate Amaral’s pioneering role in the development of contemporary textile art in Latin America.

The exhibition at MALBA is complemented by a comprehensive catalog that brings together, for the first time, archival documents related to Amaral’s career and the circulation of her work both locally and internationally. This research aims to situate the artist in her various contexts, highlighting her networks and collaborations and her interventions in architecture.
