The MAMM hosts the Alternativa Film Festival in its third edition
After its runs in Kazakhstan and Indonesia, the Alternativa Film Festival arrives in Colombia for the first time, with Medellín hosting these days of film, discussions, and workshops. From April 21 to 30, the MAMM Theater will be the venue for free screenings of new voices in cinema from the Global South, featuring a selection of 30 films from Latin America and Asia competing for awards designed to support emerging filmmakers.
Focused on promoting impactful cinema from the Global South, the festival will organize its program into two main sections: the Official Competition, which will be screened entirely at the MAMM, and the Out of Competition section, whose films will be presented at the Colombo Americano Center.
This year’s call for entries received 1,831 submissions of feature films and short films from various regions. Following an international evaluation process, 30 titles were selected for the program. All films will be presented in free screenings, accompanied by discussions and meetings that encourage deeper exploration of the works and the themes they address.
Colombian actress, producer, and activist Natalia Reyes will preside over the festival’s feature film jury, leading an international team of five members responsible for evaluating this competition. With extensive experience in film, television, and theater, and having served as the youngest president in the history of the Colombian Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences, Reyes will assume this role while an independent three-member jury will be responsible for evaluating the short films.
