Cinema is alchemy
- Simón VélezOver the last ten years I made several short films; in this program, four of them are presented under the title Del agua al aire. The main concern throughout these years of work has been water; I have always dreamed of a cinema that seems submerged, wet, an underwater world of reverie. Digression and incongruity have not been a whim but rather a way of restoring, in moving images and sounds, the space-time we fabricate while sleeping, perception deformed by the density of water. Just as water passes through different states, my cinema has undergone a transformation — from the liquid to the gaseous. Now I face ethereal and vaporous images, a cinema that floats, that is mobile and light. Del agua al aire accounts for that condensation, for my transformation.
