About the exhibition
MAMM hosts the 1st Bienal das Amazônias as part of its second exhibition cycle of 2025. Initially developed in Belém, Pará (Brazil) in 2023, the 1st Bienal brought together 121 artists from the nine Pan-Amazonian countries: Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname. The exhibition’s central theme is the Amazonian concept “Bubuia,” which means “to float.” Bubuia was not only the title of the first Bienal but also a key concept for the selection of artists, the works presented and the discussions generated around the Amazon.
