Guided tour of the exhibition Desafiar. Atravesar el sol desde un gran Pacifico
En Sala con is a space to delve deeper into the curatorial vision of the Museum’s exhibitions, interact directly with artists and curators, and learn firsthand about the motivations and contexts behind the exhibitions. On this occasion, we will visit the exhibition Desafiar. Atravesar el sol desde un gran Pacifico in the company of Cristina Vasco, Jr. curator of the Museum, for a specialized tour in which we will discuss the ideas and motivations surrounding the exhibition curated by Yolanda Chois.
About the exhibition
All the works in this show trace their own paths of sovereignty, from bodies of joy, spirituality, and struggle, or declared in a dissidence of gender and cisnormative behavior. They are framed by the experiences and commitments of primarily Afro and dark-skinned artists; we speak of “prietos” understanding the declaration that prietitud implies, as the song of the same name does. The works respond to a geography that traverses Santa Maria de Timbiqui in Cauca, crosses Buenaventura, Cali, Puerto Tejada, tracing routes from the Chocoan coast all the way to the Bay of Panama; a set of places that we will call here the gran Pacifico, understanding that territorial designations generate complexity. Here we refer to a vast, diverse, and contested territory from which the present works emerge.
