Guided tour of the exhibition Musa. Perspectivas femeninas en las Colecciones del MAMM y MAC Panama
En Sala con is a space to delve deeper into the curatorial vision of the Museum’s exhibitions, interact directly with artists and curators, and learn firsthand about the motivations and contexts of the exhibitions. On this occasion, we will visit the exhibition Musa. Perspectivas femeninas en las Colecciones del MAMM y MAC Panama, accompanied by Emiliano Valdes, chief curator of the Museum.
About the exhibition
Musa. Perspectivas femeninas en las Colecciones del MAMM y MAC Panama is an exhibition that brings together works from the collections of the Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín and the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Panama, seeking to make visible the works of women artists who have historically had less prominence than their male counterparts. The exhibition takes its title from Musa, a video work by artist Minia Biabiany (Guadeloupe, 1988), which in turn takes the scientific name of the banana plant: musa paradisiaca. Common in the tropical latitudes of the Americas and Asia, its flower is used for medicinal purposes related to uterine ailments, while also being a prominent fruit in extractivist processes in the Americas.
