Mateo
María Gamboa Jaramillo / 86 min / 2014

Mateo, a 16-year-old young man, collects extortion payments from merchants in Barrancabermeja for his uncle, a criminal boss. His mother disapproves of Mateo’s activities but accepts the money he brings home out of necessity. To prove his worth, Mateo agrees to infiltrate a theater group with the mission of exposing the political activities of its members. As he begins to become fascinated by the group’s lifestyle, his uncle vehemently demands information to incriminate the actors. Mateo must make decisions under increasing pressure. Through this story based on real experiences, Mateo and his mother find dignity when they confront the established structures of armed conflict in Colombia.
