Synopsis: In 2007, after more than 10 years as a combatant with the FARC-EP, Diego decided to escape and lay down his weapons. That same year, he accepted my invitation to participate in a series of painting workshops that we held with former combatants from different armed groups so they could share their memories of the war. Among more than 80 former combatants, Diego was the one who painted the most: in 48 paintings, he showed us his experiences in the war. Today, I look again closely at Diego’s paintings, I listen again to his accounts of each one. I face once more his years as a coca leaf picker, his recruitment at age 8, the story of his father, all the excessive cruelty he faced in the war. What can Diego’s painted images tell us today about the war?
After the screening, a conversation will take place with Juan Manuel Echavarria, director of the film.
