Meeting with Juan Fernando Herrán and María Margarita Malagón

During this gathering, attendees will be invited to identify illuminating aspects of the processes and works that allow us to recognize key contributions of Juan Fernando Herrán’s art to the understanding of socio-political and existential realities of the human being. Through a dialogue between the artist, the curator and the visitors, we will focus on significant moments in the processes involved in generating two constellations of works: the first configured around material cultures and their relationship with sociological and existential dimensions, and the second centered on issues of domination and power, both physical and symbolic.

About Juan Fernando Herrán. Materialidades y constelaciones

Over the last thirty years, Juan Fernando Herrán has developed his work from extensive fieldwork, frequently carried out in the company of a camera and his notebooks; he has also grounded it in historical, sociological and anthropological research. His processes of transforming materials, as well as constructing images and structures, are rooted in those carried out by other human beings in their search for practical solutions and symbolic meaning.
