Did you know that during the Renaissance, the artist Leonardo Da Vinci created several autonomous movement mechanisms, such as a lion and an armored knight? Also, in some parts of Asia, Karakuris were created—automaton-type machines used as toys and as hosts for serving tea.
Automata are machines or mechanisms that imitate the figure and movements of a living being. In this workshop, we will give paper an unconventional use: folding, cutting, and experimenting with movement, to produce an automaton mechanism that can animate our narratives.
