About Jaap Blonk
Born in 1953 in Woerden, the Netherlands. Composer, vocalist, poet, and self-taught visual artist. His unfinished studies in mathematics and musicology primarily created an affinity for Dada-style activities, as well as several failed jobs in offices and other well-organized systems. In the early 1980s, he discovered the power and flexibility of his voice and embarked on a long-term investigation into phonetics and the possibilities of the human voice.
Today, he has become a specialist in the creation and performance of sound poetry, supported by a powerful stage presence and an uninhibited sense of improvisation. He performs and gives workshops regularly around the world. With the use of electronics and live visuals, the scope and range of his concerts has acquired considerable breadth. To date, Blonk’s music has appeared on 30 CDs on his own label Kontrans; many other recordings as well as books of his visual work have been published in several countries.
