About Xavier Dolan
Born in Montreal in 1989, Dolan is one of the most outstanding and original voices in the contemporary film landscape. His early but prolific filmography consists of eight feature films that have been protagonists and have received recognition at the world’s most important festivals, including the Jury Prize at Cannes in 2014 for Mommy. A bold and unbridled look at the complex situation of a widowed mother who takes on the upbringing of her rebellious and troubled teenage son. In this film, Dolan, in addition to revisiting many of his recurring themes such as mother-son relationships, adolescent rebellion, among others, also experiments with the visual aspect by resorting to vertical framing and a challenging play with the very limits of the audiovisual image.

Dolan has also been concerned with portraying the dramas of this century’s queer youth, the different layers of love within this population, and the multiple experiences around diverse gender identities in contemporary society. In addition to directing, writing, and sometimes starring in his own films, Dolan has also ventured into music videos, advertising campaigns for prestigious fashion houses, and television. Without a doubt, an auteur who has forged a solid, sharp, and precise body of work to make visible the intimate and conflicting dramas of the contemporary subject.

This screening is held in partnership with the Cartagena de Indias Film Festival. #FICCI64
