Talk: Utopía. Un Territorio Otro Para Ir Anocheciendo

Un territorio otro para ir anocheciendo is a fragmentary exploration of materials, quotations, ideas, and intuitions that Victor Albarracin has scattered in notebooks, social media posts, previously published texts, and various records that over the past four years have nourished the process of writing a small collection of essays titled Potencias de vida y de muerte, which is on the verge of being completed and is seeking publication. The texts that make up the book and the materials that shape it are, for the most part, structured around the modes, powers, and inequalities of dying (especially in Colombia), and sustained by the reflection that in order to have something that could be called a “good life,” it is also necessary to embrace the challenge of a good death.

This talk will open a speculative space around some of the pieces that make up the exhibition La buena vida. Works from the Collection of the Banco de la Republica. It will be an encounter that, rather than reaffirming the knowledge and authority of the curator-critic-expert over a set of artistic works, seeks to engage with the echographies and resonances of the artistic object and the literary text; understood as another territory, occupied by voices – sometimes fluid and sometimes stumbling – that favor the unfolding of ghosts and specters, of the disappeared and absent, figures that differ from those of the “citizen” and the “person”; recipients of what, in the collective imagination, tends to be called “good living.”

About Víctor Albarracín Llano

Writer of fragments, former visual artist and former curator. After a long career of subsistence, which took him from overworked adjunct lecturer to curator without good social circles, he gave in in 2020. Since then, he writes without clear objectives, fills the pages of his notebooks with black pencil and fattens DANE’s unemployment statistics. Living in the semi-voluntary confinement of his apartment, he has been learning about the good life amid limitation.
