This experimental laboratory draws on the basic principles and methodology of collage or the concept of montage in the visual arts, with the intention of constructing other meanings, narratives, and materialities that allow for diversifying the ways of understanding, thinking about, and relating with and through images. The laboratory will allow us to discuss what affects images produce on us; whether they stimulate us emotionally, intellectually, or sensorially, or whether, on the contrary, they saturate, confront, or damage us.
This formative space is aimed at artists or students in fields related to the visual arts and is part of the Dynamic Audience Development Program of the Mayor’s Office of Medellin.
About Johan Salazar
His work concentrates on visual studies with special emphasis on the image; its composition and impact on the cognitive, social, and cultural processes of the human being. He likewise explores drawing as method and language, which has allowed him a systematized approach that he relates to photography, documents, and archives. In the development of his artistic and academic process, he has had an interest in institutional, public, and private collections as well as their materiality and the collective and personal processes involved in memorizing, accumulating, and organizing information.
He has participated in various group shows including the recent graduation show at the University of Antioquia El lugar de las otras importancias (2023); the RAN residency (2022), Feria del millon (Bogota 2021), Lineas Convergentes at Taller La Castellana and the APP emerging artists grant (2020), as well as at Galeria El museo (2019) and Galerie ALB (Paris, France, 2018).
