Correspondences Live

The Soundwalk Collective and Patti Smith performance in Medellín marked the beginning of the South American tour of Correspondences Live, a performance piece that expands the artistic universe of the project, exhibited at the Museum from October 2, 2024, to February 16, 2025. The José Gutiérrez Gómez Metropolitan Theater welcomed Patti Smith to the city for the first time, in an event that brought together 1,297 people for a cultural experience combining music, poetry, and visual arts. In collaboration with Nova et Vetera, this performance brought the audience directly to one of the most influential voices in contemporary music and creation, in a unique format that integrated different disciplines and simultaneously engaged with the exhibition at the Museum.

Meeting in Correspondences

As part of their visit, artists Stephan Crasneanscki, Simone Merli, and Patti Smith, along with nearly 500 people, toured Correspondences, an exhibition curated by Santiago Gardeazábal about the project created by Soundwalk Collective and the godmother of punk. For over ten years, this project has traversed diverse geographies and their natural environments. On this journey, the artists traced sonic imprints left by poets, filmmakers, and revolutionaries, as well as the marks of climate change’s impact. This served as a prelude to their live performance, where the audience had the opportunity to interact closely with the artists and learn more about their project.

About Soundwalk Collective

Founded in New York in 2000 by Stephan Crasneanscki and Simone Merli, Soundwalk Collective is an art collective that merges anthropological research, nonlinear narratives, and psychogeographical explorations. Their work combines tactile, poetic, and sonic elements to create pieces that explore memory, time, and love.

Throughout their career, they have collaborated with iconic artists such as Philip Glass, Nan Goldin, Jean-Luc Godard, Wim Wenders, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Werner Herzog. Their projects have been presented in emblematic spaces such as the Barbican Centre in London, the Opéra National de Lyon, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Venice Biennale, among others.

Among their most notable creations is the triptych Perfect Vision, inspired by the poetry of Rimbaud, Artaud, and Daumal, which gave rise to the exhibition Evidence. This work reaffirms the collective’s ability to connect the poetic and the sonic with profound and immersive narratives.
