We celebrate 45 years of connection with art and the city
Founded in 1978, it would take almost two years before it had its own building. Today, what began with the enthusiasm of a group of artists, intellectuals, and administrators around a project that could broaden the art scene in the city has become, in its more than four decades of history, one of the country’s leading cultural institutions.
The Museum of Modern Art of Medellín (MAMM) was envisioned by its founders as “a living museum” that would be “an educational center for information and cultural dissemination,” a space that would serve as “a link between artists and the public” and that would “project itself beyond local borders.” With these elements in mind, which were part of the Museum’s founding statutes, those who have been part of the MAMM team have ensured that, after more than four decades, this vision continues to be an integral part of the Museum’s spirit, objectives, and challenges.
It’s been a 45-year journey through the city, connecting with artists, curators, cultural managers, partner institutions, and the stories of our visitors and friends. The MAMM has become a landmark for enjoying the city, art, and film. We are a space where culture takes center stage.
As part of this celebration, where we want to feel close to you and share a special program, we invite you to learn a little about who we are.
