At a time when the MAMM was preparing to inaugurate a new chapter in its history, this proposal sought to build a symbolic relationship that staged a possible conflict between an old architecture and a new one, with the well-known debates this implies regarding contemporary models of cultural representation. The work, built with economy of means in response to the scale of the expansion project, was understood in two different ways: as a gesture of modesty and collaboration of one structure toward another, or as its defeat and submission.
Tercerunquinto (Gabriel Cázares Salas and Rolando Flores Tovar). Project for MAMM
Project for MAMM is an intervention by the Mexican collective Tercerunquinto (Gabriel Cázares Salas, 1978, and Rolando Flores Tovar, 1975) on the physical and technical structures of MAMM. The installation consisted of a cable connected to an electrical outlet in one of the temporary exhibition rooms and to a lamp at the opposite end of the cable located in the then-new building of the Museum – specifically where the institutional logo was placed, so that it would illuminate at night.
