Discover our decolonial approach in the exhibitions Desafiar and Kalabongó
Recently, our exhibitions “Desafiar. Atravesar el sol desde un gran Pacífico” and “Kalabongó” were featured in a column in El País. These shows explore the work of artists and communities in the Colombian and Panamanian Pacific and the Palenque de Benkos, opening new perspectives on their processes and histories.
- Carolina Rodríguez MayoThe Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín (MAMM) has joined the effort to decolonize structures, policies, and decolonial practices with two major platforms for Blackness, the greater Pacific, and the Maroon legacy. Desafiar and Kalabongó, the two exhibitions on view through September 2024, are making history. It is the first time that this museum has held an exhibition entirely dedicated to Afro-Colombian artists. In this way, art responds to those who insist on ignoring the weight of the past and claim that Black poetics do not exist in Colombia or the Americas.
We invite you to read the full column in El País and discover more about these exhibitions that are part of a journey the museum has undertaken for several years.
