Within the framework of the exhibition Juan Fernando Herrán. Materialidades y constelaciones, on view in our galleries from March to June 2025, we invite you to the official presentation of this retrospective exhibition’s catalog, on June 4 at 6:00 p.m. at the MAMM.
The event will feature a conversation between the artist Juan Fernando Herrán, María Margarita Malagón (exhibition curator), Maria Mercedes González (MAMM director), and Nicolás Gómez Echeverri (director of the Arts Unit at the Banco de la República), who will discuss the artist’s career, the curatorial processes, and the catalog’s contents.
The catalog is the result of a joint effort between MAMM and the Banco de la República, and includes texts by Nicolás Gómez Echeverri, Maria Mercedes González, María Margarita Malagón-Kurka, María Clara Bernal, Claudia Segura, and Marc Bembekoff. Editorial and curatorial coordination was led by Laura Zarta Gutiérrez and Nicolás Gómez Echeverri.
The exhibition is linked to the installation of the work Héroes mil at the Centro Cultural del Banco de la República in Medellín, and will have a second iteration at the Museo de Arte Miguel Urrutia (MAMU) in Bogotá between September 2025 and March 2026.
The work of Juan Fernando Herrán — present in the Banco de la República Art Collection — has addressed over more than three decades themes such as the construction of national identity, memory, territory, and processes of social and cultural transformation in Colombia. His projects, developed through rigorous historical, social, and anthropological research, materialize in sculptures, installations, photographs, videos, and drawings.
