This gathering has been designed between the Ministerio de las Culturas, las Artes y los Saberes and MAMM. It responds to the felt need to publicly converse about the current state of management, production, and circulation of Afro artists and collectives from the perspective of institutions. All of this situated in the context of Medellín, in dialogue with the country and other geographies.
This space with free admission and prior registration is intended for artists, curators, cultural managers, researchers, and art students. A certificate of participation will be issued by the Ministerio de las Culturas, las Artes y los Saberes.
The conversations develop ideas of local management for culture, reflect on spaces of narrative dispute and the role of museums in the circulation of these narratives. It will ask about the mission of institutions in fostering scenarios of self-empowerment, framed in the current relevance of topics such as self-narratives; the historical absence of Afro and indigenous visions in museums and institutions; and the transformation of curatorial practices.
