Musas en escena. Latin American women directors film series
Date: March 21 to 24, 2025
In Greek mythology, the muses were daughters of Zeus and had the important task of whispering into the poet’s ear the words that came from his mouth to compose great epics, tragedies, and other literary works that represented the human condition, leading spectators or listeners of these stories to a cathartic state. However, it was always a male poet who invoked them for his benefit. On this occasion and in the context of the exhibition Musa. Perspectivas femeninas en las Colecciones del MAMM y MAC Panama, we present four films by female directors whose muses have manifested in defiant, free characters who are at the same time eager to claim the place that belongs to them, achieve immortality through art, live their own authenticity, and honestly and empathetically make visible the issues faced by many other women in the region we inhabit.
Five female directors with their own perspectives and styles who found inspiration in the stories of these women who inhabit both the urban and rural landscapes of Latin America.
