Even when we are still, it seems we never remain in the same place; the mind wanders, thoughts walk, we constantly move toward our interior and toward others. That is why we are going to create a vessel with legs that will accompany us on the constant journey and in the present.
During this workshop, we will take a brief visual tour through some references to appreciate the different uses that ceramic vessels have been given, paying special attention to their relationship with the spiritual and the ritual; meanwhile, we will think about the shapes we are going to make and the symbolism with which we want to endow them. We will experiment with pinching and coiling techniques to build a small-format ceramic piece using clay previously extracted and prepared in the municipality of San Carlos, Antioquia. Finally, we will finish the piece with engobes (colored clays) using sgraffito and/or stencil techniques.
About Carmela Cuellar
She was born in Medellin and for 6 years has lived among the forested mountains of the municipality of San Carlos, Antioquia, where her mother’s family is from. She is a visual artist from the Universidad Nacional, and through SENA she discovered and fell in love with ceramic techniques. Thanks to this, four years ago she decided to start her own ceramic workshop, which she called CANTO DE BARRO, and it has become the space where she best fulfills her purpose: to exalt and protect the biodiversity that surrounds her and to materialize the questions that arise in her mind.
She has experience in informal education, particularly with boys and girls, where she seeks to generate experiences to sharpen observation and explore various ways to unleash creativity through the visual arts.
