Workshop with Caio Aguiar. Máscaras Boniktas and the joy of playing at awakening creatures

INSCRIPCIONES CERRADAS

The goal of the gathering is to create cardboard masks inspired by the poetics of Amazonian enchantments present in the boi-bumbá game, a vibrant cultural manifestation in the popular festivals of the Amazon and a major reference for the creations of Brazilian artist Caio Aguiar.

Through experimentation with discarded materials, especially cardboard, participants are invited to immerse themselves and awaken creatures by constructing a mask — a symbolic portal between worlds, identities and imaginaries.

As part of his research, the artist proposes an exchange of experiences based on his artistic work with the boniktas. The idea is to create a relationship of crossing and connection between territories through water, like a meeting of rivers, from the depths where enchantments dwell and their mysteries emerge. To reflect on the relationship between water and territory, and its social and cultural issues.

Bubuia. Aguas como fuente de imaginaciones y deseos

MAMM hosts the 1st Bienal das Amazônias as part of its second exhibition cycle of 2025. Initially developed in Belém, Pará (Brazil) in 2023, the 1st Bienal brought together 121 artists from the nine Pan-Amazonian countries: Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname. The exhibition’s central theme is the Amazonian concept “Bubuia,” which means “to float.” Bubuia was not only the title of the first Bienal but also a key concept for the selection of artists, the works presented and the discussions generated around the Amazon.

Activity of the Audience Development strategy of the Secretaría de Cultura Ciudadana of the Mayor’s Office of Medellín.
