INTER-VENGA
Call for temporary intervention of the new site of the Museum of Modern Art, Medellin, Colombia.

TITLE:
Other ways of inhabiting the MAMM (Museum of Modern Art Medellin) Temporary interventions to open our museum.

INTRODUCTION (THE PROJECT'S PHILOSOPHY)

There will be 31 reasons to be at the MAMM in October. The “Talleres Robledo” building - once part of the old iron and steel factory Simesa- has been restored to be the new location of the Museum of Modern Art Medellin. The place is an industrial warehouse, which has been recycled using the most advanced museum infrastructures of nowadays, something that will allow artistic experiences of all kinds and the highest level to take place there. The museum has decided to create a space for the participation and massive meeting of artists and creative minds of all fields by opening a public international call, through which an important part of the inauguration will be defined. Professionals in the fields of plastic and visual arts, graphic and industrial design, architecture, music, dance and others are invited to participate in this call, so they can intervene our new site by the implementation of an aesthetic experience.

PURPOSE

We are looking for interventions that involve visitors as the main participants. We wish to make a dynamic use of the space by allowing multiple creative or artistic representations.

PREMISES

The artistic experience is a transversal component of all the projects of the Mamm and offers a revealing life experience for the visitors.
Economy must be considered as the management of scarcity, the efficiency in resourcefulness and as a premise to confront the crisis, by redefining the paths of art.
Ecology is an essential requirement of an exhibit that is non polluting, and in which the space is expected to be returned in the same way it is received. Zero garbage –closed cycle.
Efficiency (viability) and planning is a condition to accomplish assigned deadlines strictly.
Didactics are a possibility of participation, formation, and transformation of visitors by means of an aesthetic experience.

In this sense, we expect the forwarded projects to be ephimeral constructions that are also low cost, easy to set and dismantle, free of waste, and bonding with the visitors. The topics of the projects are free and allow the articulation of different artistic expressions in one same project, such as music, dance, theater, performance, plastic and visual arts, architecture, graphic design, fashion and industrial design, among others. We even want to include daily practices and crafts, not necessarily associated to a space dedicated to “art”, such as house chores (sweeping, cooking, knitting, playing), sports, cultural events, etc.

SELECTION AND DEADLINES

Under these characteristics two (2) projects for the inauguration program will be chosen and carried out by the museum. The selected projects will have 24 hours for setting and 24 hours for dismantling, and 5 days to be exhibited. They will be recorded during the whole carry-out process. If the participating projects do not fulfill the established criteria, the museum will not assume the obligation to carry out any proposal, and the call will be declared empty. Juries: The jury will be conformed by the technical committee of the MAMM (check information about then in the downloadable documents)

ECONOMIC SUPPORT

The Mamm will accompany the 2 selected projects by taking charge of their production processes and settings. Additionally, the museum will give $3,000 dollars (or its equivalent in Colombian currency) to each winning project, to acknowledge the intellectual work of the creators. This payment is offered so the participant can accompany his/her work during the setting up of it, in case that he/she must travel from abroad, since Mamm WILL NOT pay any travel expenses. The museum will publish a catalogue including the full process of the projects.
