Based on a record of experiments the artist conducted on her own eyes, following Purkinje’s descriptions, Espitia produced a series of paintings and sculptures that, in a way, capture, interpret, and edit images that are fleeting by nature. These images form part of our visual information bank and function as mediators between perception and interpretation, like a threshold that visually connects the interior and exterior of our bodies.
Other works address another recent concern of Espitia’s: the perception of movement and how it can be represented through different media.
