Join a tour of the exhibitions Juan Fernando Herrán. Materialidades y constelaciones and Invocando a los fantasmas de la modernidad. In this reflective visit, we will explore the images that inhabit our surroundings, the symbols that repeat and the icons that, over time, shape our way of seeing and remembering the world.
Through the artworks, we will embark on a journey through the construction of collective memory and the role of images in social narratives. How is a martyr constructed? What does an icon represent? What ghosts from history still manifest in the visual? We look forward to welcoming you for a conversation and a fresh perspective on the power of representations.
About the exhibitions
Juan Fernando Herrán. Materialidades y constelaciones
Over the last thirty years, Juan Fernando Herrán has developed his work through extensive fieldwork, frequently carried out in the company of a camera and his notebooks; he has also grounded it in historical, sociological, and anthropological research. His processes of material transformation, as well as the construction of images and structures, are rooted in those carried out by other human beings in their search for practical solutions and symbolic meaning.
Invocando a los fantasmas de la modernidad
This exhibition examines how digital technologies can open new possibilities for the presentation of cultural heritage and art in a museographic context. Based on digital exhibition models of two influential European exhibitions, the show proposes a critical reflection on modernity and its narratives, exploring their echoes in contemporaneity. At its core, the digital models reinterpret the discourses of these exhibitions through the potential of current computing structures, giving rise to new analytical routes on postmodernism, non-modernity, and extra-modernity. On this basis, a group of artists investigates the influence of these ideas on forms of representation and their revisitations in our digital culture.
