Rivers that Inspire
Rivers That Inspire: Raising Awareness Through Art is an initiative developed by the Museo de Arte Moderno de Medellín (MAMM) in partnership with the Área Metropolitana del Valle de Aburrá. Its main objective is to contribute to the development of School Environmental Projects (PRAE) in educational institutions throughout the Aburrá Valley. Through artistic strategies, the project uses the MAMM’s exhibition and educational programming as catalysts to inspire environmental reflection and action, with a special focus on global and local issues related to water, biodiversity, and air quality.
Inspired by the exhibition Bubuia: Waters as a Source of Imagination and Desire, a traveling exhibition of the 1st Amazon Biennial, whose central theme is water and its connection to life, this project seeks to connect global issues with the local context of the Aburrá Valley. The exhibition will serve as a starting point for reflecting on urgent environmental challenges such as river pollution and biodiversity loss, which have repercussions across the planet.
Aimed specifically at educational institutions in municipalities of the Metropolitan Area that are developing or consolidating their Environmental Education Projects (PRAE), the project integrates art, ecology, and environmental education as transformative tools. Through workshop-visits, it seeks to raise awareness among students and teachers, providing them with tools and, above all, inspiration for addressing environmental issues and sustainable practices in their schools and communities.
“Rivers that Inspire” aims to contribute to the formation of conscious citizens committed to environmental protection, using art as a bridge between reflection and action. It represents an opportunity to connect art, education, and sustainability, inspiring young people to be agents of change in their daily lives and to participate actively and creatively in the development of PRAE projects that are more connected to reality and the environment.
