Exposición de mamm el círculo que faltaba

The Missing Circle

The exhibition The Missing Circle departs from the shared experience of death in the Latin American continent and the Caribbean which, since colonial times, has manifested in different forms: as the embodiment of the slave economy of early capitalism; of the disappeared, victims of military dictatorships, guerrillas, and civil wars that ravaged countries such as Guatemala, Paraguay, Chile, Peru, or Argentina during much of the 20th century; or more recently of the lost souls of those living dead fallen in the war on drugs that countries like Mexico and Colombia launched upon their own populations.

As a fable that proposes an allegorical approach to the social landscape of Latin America, the project will address specific episodes of the continent’s political, economic, and social history, to explore the role that counted corpses and disappeared souls play in the world of the living, not only as victims of institutionalized violence but also as emancipatory agents at the center of new political formations; not only as the persistent memories of the past but also as the vigilant expectations of the future.

The Missing Circle
will summon historical protagonists, fictional characters, tangible facts, and mythical accounts with a view to tracing the footprints left by fears and desires across different times and spaces of the continent, and seeking to reveal the connective paths between facts and places, objects and subjects, victims and perpetrators, witnesses and narrators, actors and spectators. Having established a network of international artists and collaborating institutions, the final project will provide a configuration of works, films, historical documents, and cultural objects that will describe a non-linear narrative to tell stories of the past and imagine scripts for the future. Exhibition in alliance with Kadist, Museo Amparo. Supported by Museo de Memoria de Colombia.
